Many of the general surgery jobs deal with the same schooling but the education changes where the specialties contrast, which means you don't have to start from scratch when you want to go from being a general surgeon to becoming a plastic surgeon for example. This doesn't mean you won't have to endure a lot of learning, but it will be easier than starting from scratch.

Becoming a surgeon also puts you in the middle of an elite medical community that most of the general public doesn't have direct access to and you can learn a great deal about the world, the human body, and advanced discoveries in medicine just by being a part of these communities.
